But such events are becoming more popular as communities of all sizes see the value in being welcoming of LGBTQ+ neighbors. “You are changing the narrative that the only way to come out in a small town is to get out.”

Jess and other LGBTQ+ members of the Berkley community, as well as straight allies, are coming together after City Councilmember Dennis Hennen cast a “no” vote to approving the Downtown Development Authority’s request to approve the Berkley Pride Picnic event on June 26.
