Since September a group of Oakland County residents has been coming to the Oakland County Commission meetings and speaking about changes they would like to see in the Animal Control Program. The core group is called Oakland Pet Advocates (OPA) and their goal is to increase rates of return to owner and adoptions, and to decrease the rates of euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals.

“We can go anywhere and it makes people smile,” Miron said. “Earlier today someone stopped us on the street and said ‘thank you, I was having a bad day and this made a difference.'”
The pair even has their own Facebook Page where fans can follow them on their adventures.
“The Ferndale Fur Trading Company was started because the citizens began expressing a need for a rescue group in town,” Johns said. We saw an opportunity to bring these folks together in a citywide effort to help pets find homes and to help citizens find pets!
The six week old Buff Orpingtons strut around their sandy front yard, playing like sister chickens do: nudging, pecking, cuddling, running, rolling around in the sand and darting back up the wooden ramp to their luxury penthouse, aka Ferndale’s first legal chicken coop.
Oakland County is in the process of revamping their Animal Control Division to account for an expected increase in cities using their services. The massive restructuring has come about due to officials in Ferndale learning that 39 communities have been enjoying service from the County for free, while 22 municipalities have been managing it themselves at their own expense.
