23233 Woodward has a new, but temporary, tenant. The building is the Oakland County Headquarters for the Art is for Everyone Campaign, whose goal is to encourage support of the Aug. 7th ballot proposal to provide taxpayer support for the Detroit Institute of Arts. The millage will cost the owner of a $150,000 home about $15 a year, and the money will be used to operate the museum and its programming.
The millage vote takes place on August 7, 2012.
The millage would provide $23 million per year: $10 million in Oakland, $8 million in Wayne and $5 million in Macomb.
In 2009 the DIA reduced its workforce by nearly 20% (more than 60 full and part time positions), and reduced its total operating budget by $9 million
On Feb 28, 2012 voters will be asked to vote for a millage that would extend the current millage rate of 7 mills in order to raise money for infrastructure improvements in the Ferndale School District. Currently the bond is set to expire in 2023, but if approved it would extend taxpayer’s obligation to 2033. The money would be used to eliminate asbestos in school buildings, repair heating systems, upgrade wiring and other technological needs, pool repairs and other repairs.
The Bond Application, which can be downloaded in its entirety here, goes through each building and its specific needs. It includes proposed bond language as well as terms of the bond they are seeking.
