As holiday parties and gift-giving approaches, SOCRRA has released a flyer to remind people about some of the common holiday items which can be recycled. The organization collects recycling from several South Oakland communities which benefit from the sale of the recycled materials.
“Fracking looms on our horizon. Each “frack” of each well needs up to 5 MILLION gallons of water. Wonder where that water will have to come from? Look at your favorite Great Lake, your beloved rivers and trout streams, off the end of your cottage’s dock.”
The Challenge launched in 2009 and emphasized energy efficiency projects in an effort to help local governments prepare for and make the best use of federal Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) funds. Over the last year, a team of graduate students from the University of Michigan worked with Challenge participants and the staff of partner organizations to update the program.

According to Southeast Oakland County Resource Recovery Authority, Ferndale’s rate of recycling increased to 9.03% from last years’ 8.55%. Huntington Woods residents had the highest rate, with 21.87%.
