Volunteers Needed ASAP for Food Pantry on Tuesday

The Zion Lutheran Church (143 Albany at Woodward) is seeking volunteers – teens or adults – to carry loaded grocery bags from the basement of the church out to people’s cars. A notice put out by volunteer coordinator Carol Wunderlich states “We really could use/would appreciate some volunteers to carry loaded grocery bags (2-3 /ea) for Tuesday, July 19-9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. !! The Food Pantry is supplying food for 52 households this month. MANY folks are elderly & struggle just to walk, let alone carry heavy bags up stairs to their vehicles.”

Cupcake Station’s Sweet Opening

On Thursday, April 21, 2011 The Cupcake Station opened at 301 W. 9 Mile. The Cupcake Station offers a large variety of specialty cupcakes made fresh each day from scratch. As part of their Grand Opening Celebration they gave away 500 free cupcakes. 50 Years of Comos

When Sicilia Grego was just 22 years old she started the business that would allow her to raise her son George, who was just a baby back then. As Como’s (22812 Woodward) turns 50 years old on April 1st, Grego was honored with a visit from United States Congressman Sander Levin, who presented the still-vibrant entrepreneur with a flag that was flown over the US Capitol in her restaurant’s honor.

A Taste of the Community Foundation

Palmer is one of a dozen citizens who serve on the Board of the Community Foundation as they prepare for their grand annual fundraising spectacular The Taste of Ferndale. The taste-fest takes place on March 8, 2011 from 6-9pm at Via Nove Restaurant. Tickets are $30 and include samples from many local businesses, live music from The Metro Jazz Voices, and a large silent auction. The event is presented this year by Garden Fresh Gourmet

Ferndale has proven to be a strong consumer of environmentally-conscious products, according to local food service products business Michigan Green Safe Products. Matt Naimi, General Manager of Michigan Green Safe, says that Ferndale is one of the best places to do business in, with Royal Oak, Ann Arbor and Midtown in Detroit also providing them with a good base of customers.
