A notice put out by volunteer coordinator Carol Wunderlich states “We really could use/would appreciate some volunteers to carry loaded grocery bags (2-3 /ea) for Tuesday, July 19-9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. !! The Food Pantry is supplying food for 52 households this month. MANY folks are elderly & struggle just to walk, let alone carry heavy bags up stairs to their vehicles.”

For years Christine’s Cuisine has been a favorite independent restaurant, run by Chrystyna Adams who brings traditional Eastern European food into a mix of other ethnic and American dishes. In the latest episode of Dining in the D, Adams explains the mix of food to host Chef Tom Keshishian by saying simply “I cook what I like.” Hence the name Christine’s Cuisine.

In order to spread community awareness about Earth Day, the students at Roosevelt Primary decorated paper grocery bags to give to Western Market customers. On Wednesday April 20, Western Market co-owner Steve Selvaggio went to the school to pick up the bags and talk with the youngsters about saving the planet.

Members of the newly organized group Transition Ferndale met Thursday to discuss how the group will be structured and what direction it will take in the effort to keep Ferndale moving forward in the face of depleting global resources.
A new group called Transition Ferndale is seeking to raise awareness and create discussion about the problems society and the planet face as resources become more scarce. On the third Thursday of each of the coming months, Transition Ferndale will host a film and discussion night at the Ferndale Public Library (222 E. 9 Mile) beginning at 7pm.
When Sicilia Grego was just 22 years old she started the business that would allow her to raise her son George, who was just a baby back then. The taste-fest takes place on March 8, 2011 from 6-9pm at Via Nove Restaurant.
