Al taught at Ferndale Public Schools for over 40 years until his retirement in 2008 and had attended the First Presbyterian Church of Tecumseh. In his youth, he was involved with the Boy Scouts and 4H then in college Al was a member of the fencing team and the Tri Beta Science Honorary.
“We want to remove as many barriers as we can. We hope that the scholarship will not only provide some much needed funds, but also some encouragement for them to continue down their path,” Hall said.
Kennedy students got a special tour of Downtown Ferndale as part of learning about history from a hands-on approach. The second and third graders took a bus to the Ferndale Public Library where they did research about historic locations in Ferndale and Detroit.

Among their many accomplishments since UHS opened in 2004, students have won Robotics competition trophies, participated in an award-winning Innovative Vehicle Design (IVD) competitions through the Convergence Education Foundation, and recently received state and national recognition for DECA marketing club competitions.
“It’s a lot more work that you’d expect when you first jump in,” Schurg said. “We start rehearsing in January and the auditions are in December. So as soon as we come back from winter break we get right to it.”
Early numbers indicate that voters in the Ferndale School District approved a $22,825,000 bond in Tuesday’s election. This means that most residents will continue paying around the same amount in taxes that they used to and the schools get money to improve facilities.
For the Feb. 12, 2012 forum on the school bond, Citizens for Quality Education Treasurer Bob Borkram discussed why he thinks people should vote for the school bond. Resident and occasional political candidate Tom Gagne spoke against the bond.
The FABulous Night of Entertainment includes performance by Go Comedy, Jere Storner and Friends, Funk Yeah (featuring FHS alumni) and other student performers. This is the third year they’ve held this fabulous event.
On Jan 28, 2012 Ferndale Schools held their annual Extravaganza, which is a community-wide celebration of the learning that takes place throughout the district.

On Feb 28, 2012 voters will be asked to vote for a millage that would extend the current millage rate of 7 mills in order to raise money for infrastructure improvements in the Ferndale School District. Currently the bond is set to expire in 2023, but if approved it would extend taxpayer’s obligation to 2033. The money would be used to eliminate asbestos in school buildings, repair heating systems, upgrade wiring and other technological needs, pool repairs and other repairs.

The Ferndale School District is moving forward with plans to put a $22,825,000 bond on the February ballot. The bond is an extension of current bonds with the taxes collected to be used for improvements to the School’s multiple buildings and property. On Wednesday, Oct. 12 Rocheleau will be presenting a free parenting workshop called “Conscious Disciple” at Roosevelt Primary (2610 Pinecrest) from 6:30pm-8:30pm. The workshop is geared towards parents of elementary school aged children
