Carl Weiler wore his Superman shirt on July 26 when he and Jim Whipple came to City Hall to witness the obligatory public test of election equipment. The test takes place in the weeks before every election so the public can see that the equipment works. It gives them a chance to see the safeguards that are in place to prevent problems, such as a malfunction or tampering, before election day.
Snyder did sign into law 11 other bills, including those that establish more stringent requirements before a political party will be recognized in Michigan, and requirements that Independent committees must file quarterly spending reports with the State. Other bills require all ballot or petition language must be submitted to the Secretary of State prior to circulation.
For the Feb. 12, 2012 forum on the school bond, Citizens for Quality Education Treasurer Bob Borkram discussed why he thinks people should vote for the school bond. Resident and occasional political candidate Tom Gagne spoke against the bond.
Over 60 senior citizens turned out for the October 12, 2011 Ferndale Seniors Candidate Meet and Greet, held at the Kulick Community Center (1201 Livernois). But for the team of City employees and poll workers behind the scenes, Election Day means two and a half months of meticulous planning and work, all building up to a dawn-to long after dusk in day full of dealing with people, machines, bureaucracy and immense pressure to do everything right.
The School Board, which is an independent governing body, has not moved the election to November, so City Council has turned over responsibility for administering the election to the County – which is expected double the cost to the District, but eliminate the cost to the City.
