Bobby Murray is the man on the poster for the tenth annual Ferndale Blues Festival, which takes place in Downtown Ferndale from Jan. 28-Feb. 5, 2011. He’s called Ferndale home since 1996, and has played the Blues Festival for the past three years.
Word spread quickly on the web today about a new project in the planning phase for the former Old Navy building on the corner of 9 Mile and Woodward.

On Tues, Jan 11, 2011 the Extreme Evening of Fun will take place at Boogie Fever. There will be a DJ, food, dancing and a cash bar. Just Baked will be providing the dessert. The event runs from 5pm – 10pm and costs just $10. Every penny collected will go directly to MMC for relief in Haiti.
As the sun sets on the W. Troy Street Parking Lot in Downtown Ferndale, firemen use a portable circular saw to try and reach the smoldering debris in what’s left of a dumpster fire on the side of the Better Business Systems building. At approximately 5pm, an employee of Rosie O’Grady’s reported the fire in the shared dumpster, which is located in the City-owned lot just one block South of Nine Mile.
On Dec. 11, 2010 Downtown Ferndale was full of fun winter festivities for the annual Ice Festival. Businesses were decorated with holiday glitz and glam, accentuated with spectacular ice carvings in front of many local shops. The totals are in from this year’s Pub Crawl, with $23,000 raised for charity at the signature annual Ferndale event.
It’s a solution has been considered for over ten years. The city of Ferndale, with a population of over 20,000, and key location on Woodward Avenue, has contemplated the idea of creating elevated walkways across Woodward Avenue, the state highway that divides the city in half.
On Oct. 26, 2010 dressed-up kids and (some) parents packed Rosie O’Grady’s at 279 W. 9 Mile for a fun-filled night of family games, treats, trick or treating, music and a chance to judge over a dozen scarecrows made by the employees to be auctioned off for charity.
One thing that catches your eye when you walk into Linda’s boutique is how the garments and accessories are arranged. You can definitely tell that it was art-inspired from the way the belts are criss-crossed on the table to the displays in the front window.
Chamber members get to use the giant pair of scissors to cut a big red bow, and neighbors often turn out to welcome them as well. But one business opening had an honor that hadn’t occurred in Ferndale before.
