The long-anticipated Grand Opening of Valentine Vodka, at 161 Vester Street, has arrived. On Friday, May 20, the Ferndale Chamber of Commerce will host a public ceremony and ribbon cutting at 4:30pm for the Valentine Vodka Martini Bar and Metro Detroit’s only micro-distillery. Afterward, guests are invited to imbibe on a selection of specialty cocktails and infusions throughout the evening.

As part of their Grand Opening Celebration they gave away 500 free cupcakes. The Ferndale Area Chamber of Commerce held a forum for business owners and residents to discuss Proposal A. Representatives from local and County government were there, as well as a representative from each of the citizens campaigns. Dennis Whittie spoke on behalf of Yes to Ferndale’s Future. Sean House represented FACT (Ferndale Against Council’s Tax).
On May 3, 2011, voters in the City of Ferndale will be asked to vote on a property tax increase to help fill in where lost state revenue sharing and lost property taxes have left the City $2.3 million short. Campaigns have organized around both sides of the issue, and there are two upcoming forums where residents can hear about and discuss the vote.
The Ferndale Pride 2011 Planning Committee is in full swing as over 20 volunteers gathered last week to flesh out details of the three day celebration. From June 3-5 Ferndale will be host to many LGBT community events designed to complement the Motor City Pride Celebration taking place in Hart Plaza. Shuttles will run between the two events.

On Monday, March 14, 2011 Tami Salisbury of the 8 Mile Boulevard Association (8MBA) gave a presentation about how the organization helps to beautify, preserve, and restore the 8 Mile corridor, which forms the southern border of our city.
