Hazel Park Pub Crawl Planned for Aug 26

The spirit of Ferndale is moving eastward as organizers come together for the first Annual Hazel Park Pub Crawl. The event, scheduled for August 26, 2011, will take participants on a drinking tour of the city. The Hazel Park Pub Crawl will raise money for the Hazel Park Promise Zone, an initiative that hopes to provide every eligible Hazel Park student with money to go to college.

If there are two streets in Detroit an outsider can name, they’re likely to be Woodward Ave and Eight Mile Road. Woodward from the olden days (think baby boomers and Dream cruisers), and Eight Mile from that rapper fella… We could hardly wait to get there. Even if it was daylight. Beyond Ferndale: Mitten Movie Project

Mitten Movie Project is a host of a celebration for independently made trailers, animations, shorts, and videos- the vast majority being based in the metro Detroit area. Perhaps my favorite thing to see, other than my stunning performance as goofy-real estate agent in “The Mystery Word”, was spotting a glimpse of Ferndale’s DIY festival used as the back drop for the cleverly named “Ménage-Detroit.”

Ignite Detroit And The Lessons Learned There

Well to give you a little background, Ignite is a speaking forum event that began in Seattle and has slowly made it’s way around the country. It features various speakers from all walks of life and they give a speech. Some are hilarious, others are quite serious. They have 5 minutes featuring 20 PowerPoint-like slides that switch every 15 seconds so it really keeps the speaker alert. This was the second year for the Ignite event in Detroit… and I almost didn’t go.
