Ferndale Girls Basketball Coach Shot and Killed
…Reports out today say that Shawn Patrick was shot execution-style by two assailants in masks in front of his home on Milwaukee Street in Detroit, in front of his two teenage children. Patrick was coach of the Ferndale High school girls basketball team….(read more)

Monitor Landscapes: Sengbusch’s Lemberg Opening
…“Monitor Landscapes” opened Oct. 1, 2010 at Lemberg Gallery, and was also featured as part of the Art Detroit Now’s North Woodward Gallery Crawl the following day. The paintings, which vary in size and shape, were inspired by computer consoles where “visions of other worlds are stripped of information to simplify form or enhanced by adding layers of detail around areas of interest.”… (read more)

…In MC5: Sonically Speaking, Callwood follows the band from it’s 1960s beginnings in Detroit, to their 1972 break up and more recent reunion. The book was released in London in 2007, but has just been re-released through Wayne State University Press. (http://wsupress.wayne.edu/books/1180/MC5).

District Students Practice Bus Safety Drills

The Beat Goes On: Noise issue not over
City Hall was packed on Monday, Sept. 27, 2010 as residents came out to speak against the sound ordinance petition being circulated by W. Troy Street resident Sherry Wells. City opts out of May School Board Election, County to take over at extra cost
The School Board, which is an independent governing body, has not moved the election to November, so City Council has turned over responsibility for administering the election to the County – which is expected double the cost to the District, but eliminate the cost to the City.
