FHS Senior Receives Full-Ride Athletic Scholarship
On November 14, Kelsey Wilson, FHS Senior, signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball with Akron University. In addition to playing for Akron, Wilson received a full athletic scholarship for tuition, room and board, books and supplies.
Community Input Mtg. Monday to Discuss N. Woodward
The community input meeting takes place on Monday, Nov. 21, 2011 from 6:30pm-8pm at Woodward Avenue Candy Shop (23337 Woodward). Despite the deceptively warm weather, winter is coming and it’s time to get Downtown Ferndale lit up and decked out for the holidays. On Thursday, Nov. 17 Downtown Ferndale will have a Light the Town event from 6-9pm along W. 9 Mile Road.

Recycling 101: How to Save the City Money & Help the Planet Too
Because raw materials have scarcity, there is value to items that are recyclable. Manufacturers need plastic, metal, glass and paper, so SOCRRA is able to collect these items and sell them. Currently for every ton of recyclables collected, cities in the program get $37.50. If more people recycled, it could earn the City up to $50,000, according to SOCRRA estimates.
Ferndale Recognizes its Veterans
Each year The Veteran’s Memorial Association hosts a Veteran’s Day Observance at Memorial Park on Livernois. The service recognizes those who have served in the armed forces. The memorial bell is rung at 11am, a prayer said along with the Pledge of Allegiance, and speeches and poems read in honor of those who served.
FHS Theatre Presents: Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap
Ferndale High School’s Student Enterprise Theatre presents Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap, beginning next week. The performances will take place at Ferndale High School, 881 Pinecrest, and will be performed by two casts – the Gold cast and Blue cast. This murder-mystery show features a small cast, who-done-it plot, and will be fun for the whole family.
Police End Chase up Woodward with Spike Strip for Fleeing Pickup
Ferndale Police rushed to the intersection of 9 Mile and Woodward with three police cars to block other traffic and to lay the spike strip, which punctured the fleeing pickup truck’s four tires.
Election Results are In
The election results are in for Ferndale City Council and Library Board. Incumbent Dave Coulter won the Mayor’s race with 84.17% of the vote. Dan Martin had the most votes for City Council, with incumbent Mike Lennon receiving the next most. Both of them will serve on Ferndale City Council. Ray Willis, who ran for Mayor, was not elected. Nor was Sherry Wells, who ran for City Council.
