Max Fischer is now all grown up, and running his own film company called Fish Soup Films. He came to Michigan last Wednesday as the keynote speaker for a luncheon at Michigan AIDS Coalition to help attract attention and funding to the cause. He shared news of a documentary that he has been working on for the past year, his way of carrying his mother’s work forward.

The Ferndale Area Chamber hosted it’s annual Bowling Night Out on Dec. 15, 2011 at Luxury Lanes in Ferndale. Dozens of local businesspeople gathered to share in the fun. The Ferndale Area Chamber of Commerce hosts many events and offers services to help small business owners and managers connect.
Last weekend he journeyed around his neighborhood to appreciate the holiday lights. “Most are from the west side of Woodward from Fielding in the south to Woodland in the north and Pinecrest in the West. A few are on the east side of Woodward but not many,” Baron said.
“Whether it’s acting, dancing or public speaking, it’s all an exercise in risk taking, and in being able to be open and present in the moment of the performance,” Tann said to the class of eight. Attendees were ladies of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds and variation in experience. Each one left with more confidence and personalized suggestions for improving the way they move and share their bodies in the space that they are in.

Treat Dreams is offering two weeks of fun ice cream making Winter Break camps for kids. Students will learn the art of ice cream making and then work together to create two original ice cream flavors that will be sold the following day as part of Treat Dreams’ daily flavors.
A group of parents and voters in favor of the upcoming School Bond will be meeting at Drayton Avenue Presbyterian to discuss strategy for getting voters to approve a $22,825,000 bond which will be on the February 28, 2012 ballot. The meeting will be held Sunday, December 18, 2011 at 6:30pm.
Elf Crumpet, as the kids know him, was joined by Elf Tiffany for the visit to Roosevelt. Operation Kid Equip has a roster of over 145 volunteers who donate time throughout the year. It takes 7,500 volunteer hours a year to make the program a success.
“Even members who are really active don’t take advantage of all our services,” Chamber Executive Director Jennifer Roosenberg said. That’s why they host the monthly orientation. In January it will be held on the 13th at 9am.
HB 5187 has passed both the State House and State Senate, and now only needs Governor Rick Snyder’s signature to become law. If Snyder signs, the bill would reduce the number of County Commissioners in Oakland County from 25 to 21, and remove the authority to draw electoral districts from the current committee to give it to the commission as a whole, putting control in the hands of the majority party.
The Ferndale Public Library is closed while a crew of workers makes repairs to the Library’s plumbing system. Library Director Kate Pohjola said that an official statement will be released later this afternoon updating the press and the public about what happened.

TIA presented the results of those studies, along with others for Nine and Woodward and also West Nine Mile, at the Dec. 12, 2011 City Council Meeting. Based on TIA’s findings, the DDA is recommending the following:
Ferndale City Clerk Cherilynn Tallman presented a plan to City Council on Dec. 12, 2011 which will save the city money by reducing the number of precincts from 9 to 7. This falls within the rules established by Michigan Election Law. Tallman explained the process, the benefits and the results in a request for Council action, which reads:

The Ferndale Fire Department confirms that there was a small a fire at Chazzano Coffee at 1737 E 9 Mile. Details are not yet available, but owner Frank Lanzkron-Tamarazo posted on the company’s Facebook Page “Friends, we had a fire, just a few hours ago Chazzano Coffee Roasters and we will be closed until I have further information. Everyone is okay- the building is fine. I’m just not sure about the roaster, yet. I’ll keep everyone updated.-Frank.”
The State House of Representatives passed HB 5187 today. If the bill progresses through the Senate and is signed by the Governor, it would cap the number of County Commissioners in any county to 21. It would also take away the authority of the current body to draw the new district lines. If passed, Oakland County would then have 30 days to jettison four elected officials and re-draw the District lines.
