Dumpster Fire Dies Down

As the sun sets on the W. Troy Street Parking Lot in Downtown Ferndale, firemen use a portable circular saw to try and reach the smoldering debris in what’s left of a dumpster fire on the side of the Better Business Systems building. At approximately 5pm, an employee of Rosie O’Grady’s reported the fire in the shared dumpster, which is located in the City-owned lot just one block South of Nine Mile.

Cookie Challenge Brings Charities Some Dough

On Dec. 11, 2010 Downtown Ferndale was full of fun winter festivities for the annual Ice Festival. Businesses were decorated with holiday glitz and glam, accentuated with spectacular ice carvings in front of many local shops. Families enjoyed meeting Santa and his reindeer, ice skating in the Library parking lot, festive music, crafts and holiday sales. Hazelhurst Fire Closes Allen

A second story house fire caused Ferndale Police and Fire Departments to close off Allen Road for about an hour on Jan. 3, 2011. The fire began in the upstairs bedroom of the home, which sits on the corner of Hazelhurst and Allen. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Fire Chief Kevin Sullivan said that fortunately no one was home when the fire began at approximately 2:45pm.
