Alabama Greyhounds Get the Ferndale Treatment
Apalala, Cupid, Dorli, Hush Sarah, JA’s Sum, and Tristram are greyhounds that have been rescued from a harsh life of racing, that are now up for adoption. Motor City Greyhound Rescue picked up the emaciated pooches from one of their contacts down in Alabama. Underweight, bitten by ticks, and some noses rubbed raw from excessive muzzling, the creatures were clearly in need of care.

Bike Summit Planned for Dec. 12
Complete Streets advocates are carrying on with plans that span several cities in SE Oakland County, with a Bike Summit planned for 7pm on Dec. 12, 2012 at the Royal Oak Public Library (222 East 11 Mile Road, downtown Royal Oak)
Taco Bell Rebuilding in Ferndale x 2
The location at 21900 Woodward will be demolished and rebuilt first, from approximately March 2013 to June 2013. The construction at the 1045 West 9 Mile Road location is expected to begin in June when the Woodward location is complete.
Neighborhood Meeting to Discuss Taft/DLC
So Piana and others decided to have a neighborhood meeting, which will take place at Taft/DLC on Thursday, Nov. 15 from 6:30-8pm. Any interested resident can come out and meet with Police Chief Timothy Collins, Ferndale Schools Superintendent Gary Meier and members of the School Board to discuss any concerns
City Demolishes Blighted Property on Harris Street
Community & Economic Development Director, Derek Delacourt stated that “we hope the demolition of this property and removal of the debris will improve the quality of life for residents impacted by this formerly blighted property.”

Devoted Teacher Bess Hysni Passes Away
She went on to have a remarkable teaching career at Ferndale High School that spanned 48 years. She is truly a teaching legacy at that school. She was the former head of the National Honor Society and former member of the Rotary Club.

Gary Meier Cancels Controversial Contract
Ferndale Schools Superintendent Gary Meier announced at the Monday Nov. 5, 2012 Policy Committee meeting that he had cancelled the contract between his own private consulting firm ICE and the school district.

The Ferndale Area Chamber held its 2012 Annual Awards and Recognition Gala at Shriners Silver Garden on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012. The elegant event featured a strolling dinner, a vast silent auction, an “art concert,” and of course the presentation of several awards.
Ferndale Recognized for Environmental Leadership
The Challenge launched in 2009 and emphasized energy efficiency projects in an effort to help local governments prepare for and make the best use of federal Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) funds. Over the last year, a team of graduate students from the University of Michigan worked with Challenge participants and the staff of partner organizations to update the program.
Police Report: Woman on Stolen Motorcycle
On 11/05/12 at about 11:50 p.m. a Ferndale officer made a traffic stop on a motorcycle and found the woman rider was on a stolen bike.

Industrial Vacancy Down to 10%
And thanks to the City’s investment in Economic Development, Ferndale’s industrial districts are now 90% full. Mayor Dave Coulter, who created a Mayor’s Business Council to focus on issues like industrial vacancy, announced the low rate at the recent Ferndale Seniors State of the City Address.
