Oakland County’s Local Gems Sweepstakes shined a bright light on small businesses this holiday season, generating more than 1,000 entries from Southeast Michigan residents eager to share their favorite neighborhood shops, restaurants and services.
It is a role focused on visibility, fairness, and working with residents to keep the basics done well.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel hosted a town hall at Affirmations LGBTQ+ Community Center to discuss hate crimes and terrorism, including prevention, reporting, and prosecution.
According to the City, the event will include a brief educational presentation followed by an open, community-focused discussion.
“This contest invites students to bring their imagination forward while engaging with themes that have real impact on their futures,” said Oakland Schools Superintendent Kenneth Gutman.
