In just its second year, Ferndale Pride was able to raise $10,000 to give to local charities. Michigan AIDS Coalition, Affirmations, the Dyke March and the Ferndale Community Foundation each received part of the $10,000 total.
Each location will have a nifty swag bag made especially for the event to fill up with great gift giving goodies. The bag is available for a donation of $2. The money collected will be donated to FernCare Free Clinic.

With timing that Councilperson Melanie Piana called “serendipity,” Ferndale City Council agreed on Nov. 13 to sell a former impound lot to Search Optics at 1938 Burdette. The lot is right next to their current parking, in the recently remodeled building tucked away by the railroad tracks near East 9 Mile and Hilton.
Ferndale’s downtown will commemorate again the anniversary of the day in December, 1933 that Congress and President Roosevelt enacted the 21st amendment ending prohibition. The annual event this year is December 1st, and funds will be raised for the Ferndale Good Fellows. Simply show up at any of the seven venues listed below on Saturday night to meet your favorite flappers, rum runners and gangsters.

Downtown Ferndale businesses have decked their storefronts for the holidays, a season kicked off by the DDA’s Third Thursday “Light the Town” event. DDA volunteers gave away hot coco while the Chris Brass Band played carols on the West 9 Mile sidewalks.

Apalala, Cupid, Dorli, Hush Sarah, JA’s Sum, and Tristram are greyhounds that have been rescued from a harsh life of racing, that are now up for adoption. Motor City Greyhound Rescue picked up the emaciated pooches from one of their contacts down in Alabama. Underweight, bitten by ticks, and some noses rubbed raw from excessive muzzling, the creatures were clearly in need of care.

The location at 21900 Woodward will be demolished and rebuilt first, from approximately March 2013 to June 2013. The construction at the 1045 West 9 Mile Road location is expected to begin in June when the Woodward location is complete.

Any interested resident can come out and meet with Police Chief Timothy Collins, Ferndale Schools Superintendent Gary Meier and members of the School Board to discuss any concerns
Community & Economic Development Director, Derek Delacourt stated that “we hope the demolition of this property and removal of the debris will improve the quality of life for residents impacted by this formerly blighted property.”
