When over a thousand runners filled the streets of Ferndale last month for the Rainbow Run, it wasn’t just about a test of endurance and getting covered with multicolored cornstarch paints. The event also raised $6,600 that got divided among three charities.
The theme of family love was evident in the Ferndale Pride planning. The kids’ tent was run by local moms and dads, and the Rainbow Run had a short family “run” where kids could join their parents and get paint thrown on them too. And in the afternoon a local family spoke about their experience adopting a gay teenager.
Ferndale Pride is setting a jovial pace for Father’s Day weekend activities. Not only will there be Ferndale Pride Market Daze, the Annual Dyke March, a balloon launch (with biodegradable balloons) and a new Light the Night event, there will also be the messiest and perhaps the merriest event of all: The Rainbow Run.
