Rochester Hills Library Hosting Repair Cafe on Oct 10
(RHPL, Sept 26, 2026)
Rochester Hills, MI – What do you do with a broken toaster? Or with a bike when the wheel runs out of true? Or with a sweater full of moth holes? Toss it? No way! Rochester Hills Public Library is organizing its first Repair Café on Saturday, October 10, from 12-4 p.m. to help you save the items you love.
At Repair Cafés, everything centers on making repairs. Various volunteer repair experts help make all possible repairs free of charge, and tools and materials will also be on hand for do-it-yourselfers. People visiting the Repair Café will bring along their broken items from home, and the Repair Café specialists almost always have the know-how to send them back fixed.
By promoting repairs, RHPL wants to help patrons find ways to reduce waste and learn valuable skills in the meantime. “RHPL is proud to partner with Repair Café to promote reusing and recycling, while also highlighting the skills and abilities of our patrons,” said Makerspace Manager Matt Grayvin. “We want to remind people that almost everything can be repaired and find new life, and oftentimes, can be fixed by someone in your neighborhood.”
Grayvin points out that repairs can save money and resources, and can help minimize CO2 emissions, “but above all, Repair Café just wants to show how much fun repairing things can be, and how easy it often is.”
RHPL has gathered over 20 volunteer repair experts for the event, with represented skills including sewing and textiles, sewing machine repair and maintenance, electronics repair, jewelry and watch repair, woodworking and furniture repair, bicycle repair, and tech help. There is no registration required, but there may be a wait depending on the available volunteers. Learn more at rhpl.org/repaircafe.
