ONTV: Athletes Swim, Bike and Run Through Orion Township in Dragon Trails Triathlon
(Orion ONTV, Sept. 15, 2026)
Orion Township, MI – About 100 athletes hit the water, trails and roads of Orion Township on Sept. 13 for the second annual Dragon Trails Triathlon.
The race began at Camp Agawam, where athletes gathered at the beach of Tommy’s Lake for a half-mile swim.
After emerging from the water, participants transitioned to bicycles for a 12.4-mile ride that took them through Camp Agawam, Bald Mountain Recreation Area, the Polly Ann Trail and Orion Oaks County Park before returning to camp.
The final leg was a 5K run utilizing trails in Bald Mountain and Camp Agawam’s disc golf course, with runners navigating hills, trails and even logs along the way.
Crossing the finish line first was 46-year-old Ken Corigliano of Independence Township, who completed the course in 1 hour, 21 minutes and 57.12 seconds.
“I love these kind of courses. The off-road, the ruggedness, the single track, the mud,” Corigliano said. “I was covered in mud when I did it last year and had a lot of fun.”
Corigliano said the wet and muddy conditions added to the experience.
“You couldn’t ask for a more fun time,” he said. “I’m so blessed. It’s a beautiful day. You couldn’t ask for a better crowd and a better race director.”
The event was made possible with help from sponsors and community partners including Friends of Camp Agawam, Orion Township Parks & Recreation, Bald Mountain Recreation Area and Oakland County Parks.
