Portion of Birmingham Under Boil Water Advisory

Birmingham, MI –
A precautionary boil water notice is in effect as of Friday, Aug. 7, 2026 at 5:15 p.m. for a section of southwest Birmingham from Southfield Road west to Cranbrook Road and Maple Road south to 14 Mile/Saxon/Northlawn (impacted area within the redlines shown below). This is due to water pressure loss from a break in a 16-inch water main on the west side of Southfield Road between Northlawn and Norfolk.
This advisory will remain in effect until further notice from the City of Birmingham. We anticipate the advisory will be in place until at least Tuesday, when testing can be completed to confirm that the water is safe for consumption. remain in effect until at least Tuesday.
Whenever a water system loses pressure for any significant length of time, precautionary measures are recommended because a loss of pressure can lead to bacterial contamination in the water system. Bacteria generally are not harmful and are common throughout our environment.
Although no contamination has been detected, as a precaution, all water customers in the impacted area are advised to boil water used for drinking and cooking. Boiling the water before using it will kill bacteria and other organisms that may be in the water. Drinking water should be boiled for at least one minute and allowed to cool before consumption. Boiled, bottled or disinfected water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and preparing food until further notice.
Once the water sample test results are in compliance with Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (MI EGLE) guidelines, you will be notified that the Precautionary Boil Water Notice has ended
