Keego Harbor TIFA Joins Oakland County Main Street Program

Keego Harbor, MI – The Keego Harbor Tax Increment Finance Authority (TIFA) has officially joined the Oakland County Main Street Program, becoming the program’s 30th participating community. The membership provides the TIFA Board with access to nationally recognized economic development tools, training, local grants, technical assistance, and a network of communities focused on strengthening local business districts.
The Oakland County Main Street Program helps communities build vibrant commercial districts through proven strategies centered on community engagement, business investment, placemaking, entrepreneurship, and long-term economic sustainability. While many participating communities operate Downtown Development Authorities (DDAs), the program also supports districts like Keego Harbor’s TIFA as they work to strengthen their commercial corridors.
City Council liaison Corine Streng said the program has already become a valuable resource for the Board.
“Oakland County Main Street has been incredibly helpful in providing the TIFA Board with guidance, resources, and practical advice as we begin building a Main Street model of business development for Keego Harbor. It’s exciting to learn from communities that have successfully transformed their downtowns.”
TIFA Board member Ethan Drain has been leading efforts to develop an actionable list of projects the Board can undertake in partnership with local businesses and the community.
“Half of the battle is simply taking the first step,” Drain said. “The Main Street approach is a proven model that helps ensure our first step is with our best foot forward.”
The TIFA Board has begun identifying small-scaled projects focused on beautification, business engagement, public spaces, and events, that can be implemented over time in collaboration with property owners, business owners, and community partners.
Keego Harbor now joins a distinguished group of Oakland County Main Street communities, including Downtown Farmington, Ferndale, Rochester, Royal Oak, Clawson, Oxford, and many other communities known for their thriving downtown districts and vibrant local economies.
The membership also aligns with one of the City’s most significant long-term priorities. Keego Harbor’s recently adopted Master Land Use Plan identifies the transformation of the Cass Lake Road Corridor into a more walkable, village-style destination as a key redevelopment initiative. Participation in Oakland County Main Street provides the City and TIFA with additional expertise and resources to help turn that vision into reality.
As TIFA continues its work, residents and business owners will have opportunities to participate in future projects, share ideas, and help shape the continued revitalization of the Cass Lake Road Corridor.
