Oakland County Restaurant Quest: Lillie Mae’s Southern Buffet

Southfield, MI – Those in the mood for some home-style southern dishes might love Lillie Mae’s Southern Buffet in Southfield. This restaurant boasts a large dining room, as well as a thriving carry-out option. They’ve also added a bar, complete with Happy Hour specials.
For my inaugural meal I picked both the ribs and the fried chicken to try, along with a few side items. The ribs came with a lip-smacking tangy sauce, and the chicken was fried to a golden crisp.
Dressing, greens, mac and cheese, and grits were my sides of choice for a variety of comfort food favorites. A square of cornbread and a personal size sweet potato pie rounded out the culinary tour.
Other soul food choices include fried catfish, peach cobbler, shrimp jambalaya, braised oxtails and grits, turkey legs, and smothered pork chops. They even have chicken and waffles topped with butter and strawberries.
Other sides include black-eyed peas, beans and rice, and sweet potatoes.
