Farmington Hills Receives Grant Funding for Pedestrian Crossing Upgrades

Farmington Hills, MI – SEMCOG, the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments, joined City of Farmington Hills leaders during the City Council meeting on Monday, July 13, for a ceremonial check presentation recognizing the City’s award through SEMCOG’s Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP).

The Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) is a competitive grant program that allocates approximately $10 annually to local transportation projects. Eligible projects include:

Shared-use path and sidewalk improvements

Pedestrian safety enhancements

Construction of new sidewalks

Complete streets features that improve accessibility for all users

“Today’s $325,000 investment shows how regional collaboration delivers real benefits to our communities,” Theresa Rich, Mayor, Farmington Hills said. “We appreciate SEMCOG’s support through the Transportation Alternatives Program and its commitment to improving safety and mobility across Southeast Michigan.”

“We’re excited about this project in Farmington Hills as a part of Safe Streets Now — quick-build projects centered around pedestrian safety,” Amy O’Leary, Executive Director, SEMCOG said. “It’s a huge priority for our region. With the safety benefits and the planning work that was done, this project was in many ways an easy decision for our Regional Review Committee; we’re excited to see the project take shape.”
