Air Quality Alert Issued for Entire State of Michigan

Michigan – The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) has issued a Statewide Air Quality Alert starting Wednesday 7/15 for elevated levels of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) due to wildfire smoke.

The air quality index is expected to reach an Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) level throughout the state with the potential for an Unhealthy level, especially in Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. In case conditions worsen, it is critical to monitor air quality at EPA AirNow.
The smoke plumes will reach the Upper Peninsula Tuesday evening, dropping into the northern Lower Peninsula overnight. Models show the smoke plumes will reach the Michigan/Indiana border Wednesday evening. The alert is scheduled to last until 7/16 at 9:00 pm.
