Southfield Police Hosting Presentation on Safety at Places of Worship on July 12
SOUTHFIELD, MI – Houses of worship have traditionally been viewed as sanctuaries of peace, but recent regional events have forced communities across Southeast Michigan to confront a different reality. From the tragic shooting and arson attack at a Grand Blanc township church last fall to a highly publicized vehicle-ramming incident at Temple Israel earlier this year, faith communities across Metro Detroit are actively rethinking their security measures.
To address these growing concerns and offer actionable guidance, St. David’s Episcopal Church is hosting a special presentation on Church Safety and Security on Sunday, July 12, at 11:30 a.m. The event will feature expert insights from partners at the Southfield Police Department, who will discuss emergency planning, situational awareness, and de-escalation strategies tailored for faith-based environments.
“People come to their houses of worship to feel safe – and we want to make sure that’s the case,” said the Very Rev. Chris Yaw, rector of St. David’s. “The insights into these subjects by our experienced friends at the Southfield Police Department will be both educational and inspiring.”
