Man Injured in Trench Collapse on Construction Site in Oxford

Oxford, MI – A 35-year-old Ira Township man is in stable condition after being rescued from a trench collapse this morning at a construction site in Oxford Township.
At approximately 9:25 a.m. this morning, deputies from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and the Oxford Fire Department responded to the 3900 block of Barber Road for a report of a worker trapped in a collapsed trench.
The preliminary investigation indicates workers were installing field tile as part of a septic system when the man entered the trench to glue pipe together. While he was inside, a trench wall collapsed, burying him beneath the soil.
Deputies and firefighters immediately began rescue efforts and successfully extricated the worker. He was transported to McLaren Oakland Hospital, where he remains in stable condition while undergoing further evaluation.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau responded to the scene along with an investigator from the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA), which is leading the workplace safety investigation. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Drone Unit also responded to assist with aerial documentation of the scene.
