14 Mile Road to Close Near Franklin Road for Culvert Repair

Bloomfield Twp, Franklin, MI – The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) expects to close 14 Mile Road, just east of Franklin Road on the Franklin Village/Bloomfield Township border, starting Friday, June 26, for continued work on the culvert over the Rouge River.

This section of 14 Mile Road has been closed to westbound traffic since June 8. To complete the work, the road must be fully closed until approximately July 17.

The traffic detour route will be Franklin Road to Maple Road to Telegraph Road, back to 14 Mile Road and vice versa.

Northbound Franklin Road is currently closed just north of 14 Mile, also for work on the culvert on that road over the Rouge River, but will fully open to traffic on June 26, prior to the 14 Mile full closure.

The $1.65 million project is mostly funded with federal dollars as well as a contribution from RCOC. In addition to the 14 Mile Road culvert, the funding also includes the additional culvert work on the Franklin Road culvert and culvert work on Inkster Road, also over the Rouge River.

The 14 Mile Road culvert project includes:

Placing a cement lining in the existing 14 Mile Road culvert to extend the life of the structure.
Paving with asphalt in the vicinity of the culvert.
Restoring the streambanks.
Placing new guardrail.
Repairing the culvert headwalls.
Placing new curb and gutter.
Improving drainage in the vicinity of the culvert.
