Hazel Park Schools Announces New Junior High Principal Heather Agueros
(HPS June 24, 2026)
Hazel Park, MI – Hazel Park Schools has introduced Heather Agueros as our new Principal at Hazel Park Junior High.
Heather, who has been Principal at Webster Early Childhood Center for the last two years, takes over for Dr. Julie Kaminski, who has resigned to take an administrative position in another school district.
“We’re super excited to make this announcement and look forward to having Heather continue building on all the great things we have going on at our Junior High,” Dr. Amy Wilcox said. “She’s been such an asset to Hazel Park Schools since coming here and has done such an amazing job at our Webster Early Childhood Center.”
Heather has strong roots in Hazel Park, where she graduated in 1990. She got her Bachelor of Education degree and later her Master’s in Administration from the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
Before joining our team here at HPS, Heather worked at Eastpointe Community Schools as an elementary school Principal for seven years. She was also a fifth-grade teacher at Fitzgerald Public Schools for 16 years and an Instructional Coach.
“I’m very excited,” Heather said. “I’m really eager to get started. I’m really looking forward to honoring all the great work they’ve done thus far with the Teaming Model and continuing to move this in a positive direction,” Heather added. “It’s important for me to hear from the staff as to what they like and what changes they feel need to be made.
“I’m looking forward to continuing to work together as a team to build on this at the Junior High,” Heather continued. “Together we’re going to fine-tune what they’ve started. They’ve seen some great results already.”
Communication is also a key component for Heather.
“Communication is essential in any job,” Heather said. “I want to hear from every staff member, just to get their thoughts on what they feel is going right and what things we may need to improve. My door is always open to have any of those conversations with staff and our families.”
Heather also believes that a successful school can only be built through strong partnerships between home and school. She’s committed to fostering open communication and working collaboratively with families and staff to bolster our programs and ensure our students receive the best educational experience possible.
