Downtown Wixom Breaks Ground on West End Commons

Wixom, MI – On June 17, 2026, community leaders, elected officials, project partners, and residents gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of the West End Commons, an exciting new public space that will further enhance the vibrancy and connectivity of Downtown Wixom.
The groundbreaking marks a significant milestone for a project that has been years in the making. The vision for the West End Commons began in 2022 when the Wixom Downtown Development Authority’s Design Committee started exploring ways to transform an underutilized property into a welcoming destination for residents and visitors.
What began as a simple conversation about possibilities evolved into a comprehensive placemaking initiative designed to strengthen Downtown Wixom, support local businesses, and create a space where people can gather, connect, and build community.
The project moved from concept to reality through the collaborative efforts of many partners. Initial design concepts were developed by Chris Nordstrom of Carlisle/Wortman Associates and later advanced into detailed engineering plans by Mike Darga and the team at Hubbell, Roth & Clark.
“The West End Commons will be much more than an open space,” said Laura Cloutier, Executive Director of the Wixom Downtown Development Authority. “It will be a place where people gather, connect, and create memories. This investment reflects our commitment to creating a downtown that is welcoming, vibrant, and connected.”
The West End Commons is designed to serve as a community gathering space while supporting surrounding businesses and activating the western gateway into Downtown Wixom. The project aligns with the DDA’s ongoing efforts to create meaningful places that enhance quality of life, encourage economic activity, and foster a stronger sense of community.
Projects of this magnitude would not be possible without strong partnerships and financial support. The Wixom DDA extends its sincere gratitude to Congresswoman Haley Stevens for securing Community Project Funding and to Main Street Oakland County for providing support through its Placemaking and Public Spaces Grant Program. Their investment demonstrates the importance of placemaking projects that strengthen communities and support local economies.
The DDA would also like to thank Mayor Pat Beagle, the Wixom City Council, City staff, Oakland County officials, project consultants, contractors, DDA Board members, Design Committee volunteers, and community supporters who helped make this vision a reality.
As construction begins, excitement continues to build for what will become a new destination in Downtown Wixom. The West End Commons represents more than a physical improvement—it is an investment in the future of the community and another step forward in creating a downtown where residents and visitors can gather, celebrate, and enjoy all that Wixom has to offer.
