Events to Support Lake Orion Area Businesses Hurt by Water Emergency
(Oakland County Times, June 2, 2026)
Lake Orion, MI – Scores of businesses in the Lake Orion area had to close the week of Mothers Day due to a water main break, and now the community is rallying to support them now that they’re re-opened.
The Orion Area Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Lake Orion Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and Orion Township on a series of initiatives inviting the public to come shop and dine locally, called “LOve LOcal: Meet Me in Orion.”
On Friday Chamber members and community leaders brought appreciation gifts to business owners around town. They’ve also created LOve LOcal window clings to encourage shoppers and to show the spirit of community that many businesses share.
On the week of June 14 is “Mothers Day Redo,” a make up Mothers Day week for Orion businesses who missed out during the water main break. Share photos on social with the hashtag #orionredo for a chance to win gift cards and other prizes.
The Chamber is also introducing “Meet Me in Orion” Live Lunches. Throughout the summer, the Chamber will highlight a designated local restaurant and encourage community members to gather, dine, and support these vital establishments. During the time frame of 12 Noon – 1:30 PM, the Chamber Leadership Team will be on-site to greet customers, spark friendly conversation, and foster community companionship. Residents, professionals, and visitors are all invited to participate. Simply show up, look for the signage, and help pour support back into the community.
“Local businesses are the cornerstone of the Orion community, and all of our small businesses and (restaurants, retail, trades, hospitality, trades and suppliers, health and wellness) industries need our support and encouragement as times are tough more than ever right now,” said Joyce Donaldson, President & CEO of Orion Area Chamber. “The water main break presented an unexpected hurdle, but by coming together for the LOve LOcal campaign, we can make a tangible financial impact.”
The lunches are a new addition to the robust programming the Chamber already offers to support small businesses. Ribbon cuttings, workshops, networking events, and more are also continuing. Check out these upcoming opportunities to share LOcal LOve:
