Oakland County Restaurant Quest: Breakaway Deli in Troy

Troy, MI – Breakaway Deli has been a staple in the Troy community since 1989. A classic menu of soups, sandwiches, salads, and more – plus an atmosphere of warm hospitality – makes it a place for quick meals and friendly gathering through generations.
For my visit I got a few items carried out. First off was a tossed salad with chicken, which had olives, cherry tomatoes, cucumber slices, and deli chicken. I also had the Italian pasta salad and the chili, which had the option for onions and cheese. The chili was my favorite, with lots of beans and meat, and just the right amount of spice.
For sweet stuff, I had Dr. Brown’s Cream Soda, and sugar cookies for dessert. Macadamia, Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Raisin, and Double Chocolate are the other cookie options.
But being a deli, the sandwiches are the real stars. And there are so many choices!
I ordered the Construction Zone Roast Beef made with delicious deli roast beef wrapped with spinach wrap. There’s also a choice of cheese, and I picked cheddar. Other cheese options include Swiss, provolone, Havarti, and pepperjack. Bread options include pumpernickel rye, white, onion roll, tomato wrap and more. Sandwiches can be made hot, grilled, cold, or toasted and cold. I went with cold for mine. Plus there’s a whole menu of add-ons, like bacon, hot peppers, avocado spread, sauerkraut, lettuce, tomato and more. You can even upgrade to make the sandwich “bigger;” or “biggest.”
There are over two dozen sandwiches on the menu. And when you factor in the options for each, possibilities may seem endless. Just a few of the choices include the BBQ Chicken, Reuben, Meaty Grilled Tomato and Cheese, Tuna Salad Club, Veggie and more. In the “Construction Zone” it’s easy to build the perfect sandwich for you tastes.
Carryout is easy, with online ordering available. But there’s also a nice sized dining area for those who want to stay.
