Pontiac, MI – The School District of the City of Pontiac is seeking applications for the current vacant position on the board of education. An individual will be appointed to fill the vacant position until the November 3, 2026 elections have been held and certified and a newly elected individual has been sworn-in to fill the remainder of this position’s term.
Interested persons must submit a notice of their interest and qualifications for the position, in writing, to Dr. Anisha Hannah, Board President, and ShaQuana Davis-Smith, Board Secretary, at the district’s office located at 47200 Woodward Ave., Pontiac, Michigan by 5:00 p.m. on June 5, 2026.
What Do Board Members Do?
A school board, working with its community, has four major leadership responsibilities and an unlimited amount of decisions to make on a wide range of issues.
Leadership Responsibilities
1. To envision the district’s education future and set goals and define strategies to guide the district toward that vision.
2. To hire a superintendent who’ll effectively implement the board’s policies and manage the district to accomplish its goals.
3. To monitor and assess the district’s performance and to keep the public informed and engaged.
4. To advocate for students and public schools within the community, state and national levels.
