Ann Arbor Man Accused of Car Jacking and Shooting in Orion Township
(Crystal A. Proxmire, May 19, 2026)
Orion Township, MI – Less than an hour and a half after a woman was shot during a car jacking in Orion Township, Oakland County Sheriff’s Officers had the suspect under arrest.
The suspect, a 25 year old male from Ann Arbor, had reportedly been sitting outside of Panera Bread in the Baldwin Commons Plaza watching people before approaching a woman in her 40s and her young son. According to Sheriff Mike Bouchard, the man shot the woman in the hip, stole her car keys, and fled. The call came in at 5:43pm.
Deputies used the Flock license plate reader system to locate the vehicle. After what Bouchard called a brief chase, the suspect crashed the vehicle, ran, and was captured in Groveland Township.
At an 8:45pm press conference, Bouchard said that the woman was in surgery, but was expected to recover although “she lost a lot of blood.”
He said that the suspect was not cooperating, and would not even give deputies his name. But the man was identified through fingerprints as he was in the system from a previous assault.
The suspect’s identity has not yet been released because he’s not yet been arraigned. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
