Highland Township Firefighters Rescue Cat from Tree
(Oakland County Times, Mary 17, 2026)
Highland Township, MI – Firefighters in Highland Township did a special rescue Saturday – a cat stuck in a tree!
Neighbors told firefighters that the cat’s owner was at a funeral for her mother, and the little guy had been stranded up there since yesterday.
“We’re grateful for our partnership with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team and appreciate their assistance on the scene today,” the department said on Facebook.
“Some may view calls like this as a waste of resources, but we see it differently. Situations like these provide valuable training opportunities that help sharpen the skills we rely on when rescuing people in emergency situations. Just as importantly, they help strengthen the connection and trust between first responders and the community we are proud to serve.”
It’s important to note that not all animals in trees require fire department service. “The vast majority will come out on their own, the same way they got up there. This was special extenuating circumstance,” the post said.
