Oakland Schools Accepting Applications to Fill Oak Park School Board Vacancy
(Oakland Schools, April 17, 2026)
Oak Park, MI – Oakland Schools is seeking letters of interest for the current vacant position on the Oak Park Schools Board of Education.
An individual will be appointed to fill the vacant position until the November 3, 2026 election is certified.
Interested persons must submit their letter of interest to Nicole.Christian@oakland.k12.mi.us no later than 4 PM on Friday, April 24, 2026.
Interested persons must be eligible to apply for the vacancy. To be eligible, a person must be a qualified school elector. This means that the applicant must be a registered voter in the school district; be at least 18 years of age; a citizen of the United States; a resident of the state of Michigan for at least 30 days; and a resident of the school district.
Under the Michigan Constitution, a person is ineligible for election or appointment to any state or local elective office if the person was convicted of a felony involving dishonesty, deceit, fraud, or a breach of the public trust within the preceding 20 years, and the conviction was related to the person’s official capacity while holding any elective office or position of employment in local, state, or federal government.
A Special Meeting of the Oakland Schools Board of Education will be held at Oakland Schools (2111 Pontiac Lake Road, Waterford, MI 48328) on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at 5:15 PM to review candidate letters of interest and schedule interviews.
At a Special Meeting occurring on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at (time TBD), the Oakland Schools Board of Education will interview interested and eligible candidates and conduct a vote to appoint a candidate to serve on the Oak Park Schools Board of Education until the November 3, 2026 election is certified.
