Ferndale’s Fern and Learn Series Returns, with Up Close Look at Local Government
Ferndale, MI – The City of Ferndale’s Communications Department is thrilled to announce that the annual Fern and Learn program is back for the fourth year in a row.
This free, in-person program offers a chance to learn how local government works.
Each week, a different department will host sessions with tours, presentations, hands-on activities, and games.
Applications are now open! Sessions take place every Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., starting April 9 and running through June 18, 2026. Most meetings will be held in the City Hall Council Chambers, but there will also be visits to the Police, Fire, and Public Works stations, as well as a picnic in the park with Parks and Recreation.
Dinner is included at each session.
The schedule is as follows:
1. April 9: City Manager’s Office
2. April 16: Fire Department
3. April 23: Downtown Development Authority and City Clerk/Elections
4. April 30: Police Department
5. May 7: Finance Department
6. May 14: Public Works
7. May 21: Facilities and Community and Economic Development Department
8. May 28: IT and Human Resources Departments
9. June 4: Parks and Recreation
10. June 11: Communications Department
11. June 18: Graduation and Boards and Commissions
While everyone is encouraged to attend the full program, participants are welcome to drop in and join
any session that interests them. The program is open to all, not just Ferndale residents.
