Birmingham Seeks Applicants to Fill Commission Vacancy

Birmingham, MI – Applications are now being accepted to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Birmingham City Commission, after Mayor Pro-Tem Anthony Long’s recent notice of resignation.
MPT Long will resign at the end of the commission’s April 13 meeting, and the selected candidate will be sworn in to fill the vacant seat through the Nov. 2, 2027 general municipal election.
Interested candidates must submit an application to the City Clerk’s Office on or before noon on April 8, 2026. These applications will appear in the public agenda for a City Commission workshop on Monday, April 13, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. The City Commission will interview applicants during the workshop, which immediately precedes a 7 p.m. regular City Commission meeting. At the end of the regular City Commission meeting, commissioners will make nominations and vote on a candidate. The selected candidate will be sworn in and will begin serving as an acting City Commissioner during the city’s budget hearing on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
