Geoffrey King Appointed to Fill Vacancy on Village of Franklin Council
(Charlie Haviland, Dec 22, 2025)
Franklin, MI – Franklin Village Council this month during its regular meeting appointed Geoffrey King to a vacated trustee seat replacing Mike Seltzer who retired after fifteen years of service.
King was appointed after a first ballot nomination and a four to one vote. President Pro Tem Pam Hansen was the lone dissenter.
Six candidates applied for the job and pleaded their cases before council December 8th: Bachir Chamma, who last year ran for village council president against current President David Goldberg and presently serves on the Planning Commission of Southfield Township, Dr. Jerome Seid, retired oncologist, Karen Smith, marketing and events professional, Lewis Harris, retired GM manager, first responder, and Franklin Baseball & Softball League board member, Stuart Wooters, academic engineer and six year Franklin Village planning commissioner, and Geoffrey King. King, a three year resident who moved with his family from Chicago, is a manager at Google.
On his application, King said he has “served in various advisory roles, guiding large enterprises on the strategy, process, and execution of their advertising campaigns.”
His appointed term ends in 2026 and King vowed he will campaign for the seat next November.
In his interview by council, King said budgetary vigilance was the most important issue in his view. “It would not be great stewardship to be running in place and have the budget end up in a bad situation. I think it’s a really important thing to have an open mind and pay attention to detail.”
Outgoing Trustee Seltzer was honored with a proclamation stating, ”Whereas Mike has shown himself over the previous thirty years to be an outstanding example of volunteerism in and for “The Town that Time Forgot,”which is Franklin’s motto.
