Oakland Thrive Restaurant Quest: Oaxaca Mexican Food in Troy
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Dec. 15, 2025)
Troy, MI – Traveling around Oakland County on a quest to try every restaurant possible, it’s always great to find an authentic Mexican spot that is delicious, quick, and affordable. With a simple menu of traditional items, Oaxaca Mexican Food in Troy hit the spot.
I ordered a pair of tacos, made on a corn tortilla topped with cilantro, onions and salsa (plus I added on some cheese), with a choice of protein. Out of shredded chicken, chorizo, fried pork, marinated pork, ground beef, shredded beef, shrimp, and steak, I opted for the tinga, which is shredded chicken. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and generously portioned, especially for the price.

I also got sides of rice and refried beans to compliment the tacos, both of which were also mildly seasoned.
Oaxaca, which is named after a city in Mexico, has a simple menu of tacos, tortas, burritos, and quesadillas. Plus churros for dessert. Check them out at 1985 E. Wattles Road inTroy or visit them online at http://www.oaxacatroy.com/
