Auburn Hills Selects Mayor and Pro Tem, Honors Greg Ouelette

Auburn Hills, MI – Auburn Hills City Council was sworn in on Nov. 17, in a meeting that included a presentation about Greg Ouellette’s service. Ouellette was a longtime community volunteer and planning commissioner who ran for City Council in the Nov. 4 election. Ouellette received enough votes to be elected, however he died on election day.
Because Ouellette died at 10:06am, before the polls closed, state law dictates that the next highest vote-getter would be elected. In this case, Henry Vincent Knight was re-elected.
At the Nov. 17 meeting, Knight was sworn in along with Ron Moniz, Eugene Hawkins, and Jack Ferguson. Hawkins and Ferguson had already been serving on City Council. Moniz had previously served on City Council from 2017 to 2021.
Hawkins was selected by his peers to serve as Mayor. Council member Brian Marzolf, who had most recently been Mayor, was selected to be Mayor Pro Tem.
Hawkins was originally appointed to fill a partial term in June of 2021. He was then elected in Nov. 2021, and had served as Mayor Pro Tem since Nov. 2023. Hawkins is a small business owner, operating his own State Farm Insurance Agency. He volunteers with Rotary Club, Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, and Youth Assistance, as well as serving as a reserve deputy with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department.
