Oct 26 – Ferndale Library Hosting Group Art Show with Autumn Theme
Ferndale has always loved local artists. For more than 15 years, the Ferndale Area District Library has matched that sentiment by hosting live concerts, author readings, and especially art exhibitions. Coming up on Sunday, October 26, the library is inviting the entire community, even beyond its borders, to fall into the spirit of the season at the Opening Reception for their new Group Show, featuring various works from 18 unique local artists, each responding to the thematic prompt of: Autumn!
With paintings spanning still lifes to abstract,, mixed media and mat assemblages, photography and beyond, this new art exhibition at the Ferndale Library celebrates the colors, moods, and meanings of autumn. The Opening Reception on Sunday, October 26, will be held in the library’s main show space, its program room, where the public will have a chance to meet each of the 18 artists in an engaging and welcoming environment, observing and exploring their work, and enjoying light seasonal refreshments and live musical accompaniment.
Curated by the library’s dedicated Art & Exhibitions Committee, the new Autumn Group Show highlights each artist’s personal interpretation of the prompt “autumn,” resulting in a dynamic and multi-sensory celebration of change, reflection, and natural beauty. Whether visitors are drawn to the quiet melancholy of fading leaves or the cozy vibrancy of harvest colors, there’s something in this exhibition to resonate with everyone.
The Ferndale Library Art & Exhibitions Committee was formed in 2012 to promote and foster an appreciation of art across all mediums, primarily through displays and exhibitions. Over the years, the library has hosted more than 50 exhibitions and has amassed a permanent collection of works, with enough pieces to fill the entire interior of the library. Along with that, the library’s art committee has strived to give everyone in the community a chance to encounter and appreciate art, particularly replicating a gallery experience for every attendee.
“The modern public library is the 21st-century community center,” said Jeff Milo, Chair of FADL’s Art & Exhibitions Committee. “It’s a welcoming space where the community can be and share ideas, tell stories, and appreciate culture. This exhibition demonstrates the incredible talent situated right here in our city and in the Metro Area, and our Reception is just another way in which our library can continue its role in providing access to free events that are exciting, thought-provoking, and ultimately inspiring.”
The Autumn Group Show will be on view in the library’s program room and west atrium from October 13 through the end of November, viewable during library hours, seven days a week. All are welcome to attend the opening reception and explore the show throughout its run. Admission is free/no registration required.
