Help Re-Name Orion’s Great Lakes Athletic Club in Battle of the Names Contest
(Orion Township, Oct. 19, 2025)
Orion Township, MI – On Thursday, October 16, Orion Township announced the launch of its Battle of the Names contest, inviting the community to help choose a new name for the recreation center at Great Lakes Athletic Club (GLAC).
The winning name will be unveiled at the Township’s Parks & Programs event on November 12—a celebration that will also include ribbon cuttings for both the new Recreation Center and the Township’s newest park, Heritage Park (located at 3345 Pasadena, less than half a mile south of GLAC on Baldwin Road). After the ceremonies, attendees are invited to enjoy complimentary tours, hors d’oeuvres from local restaurants, and free access to the recreation center.
Here is how the Battle of the Names contest will work:
Name submission: Now through Tuesday, October 21, community members can submit name ideas here.
Voting rounds: Multiple preliminary voting rounds will take place between Friday, October 24 and Sunday, November 9. During these rounds, community members can vote for their favorite name, up to 3 times through:
- Orion Township and Orion Parks & Recreation Facebook pages.
- In person at Township Hall or the recreation center.
- Through the Township’s FREE emergency alert system, CivicPlus.
The final round of voting will take place exclusively through CivicPlus and in person.
This is a chance for residents to leave their mark on a key community space while joining in the fun at a celebration of parks, recreation, and community spirit.
