Oakland Thrive Restaurant Quest: Kacha Thai Market in Royal Oak
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Sept. 30, 2025)
Royal Oak, MI – The quest to try every restaurant in Oakland County took me recently to Downtown Royal Oak for a delicious lunch at Kacha Thai Market.
A friend and I split an appetizer of fried tofu, a crispy delight with a tangy sauce. They enjoyed a San Pellegrino while I loved my lychee smoothie.
For the main course I had the BBQ pork and rice. The pork was tender and perfectly sliced, topped with a distinctly red, sweet BBQ sauce. The cucumber and egg added some contrasting textures and flavors that really brought the dish together.
My friend had the red curry made with tofu and with broccoli added. The spices of this classic Thai dish were on point, with notes of spicy chili paste, coconut milk, and fragrant lemongrass that my friend said warmed their belly.
There are so many amazing choices on the menu. Appetizers include chicken satay, pork rind, moo krob which is deep fried pork crackling, hat yai chicken, crab rangoon and more. Kacha Thai Market has stir fried noodle dishes like drunken noodle, rad na, and pad Thai. Plus there are rice, curry, and vegan dishes.

Among the Chef’s Specials is Pla Lui Suan, which is deep-fried tilapia with ginger, lemon, red onion, cliantro, and Thai peppers. Another Chef’s Special is the Stir Fried Shrimp with Yellow Curry.
The beautiful food is matched by the colorful decor. With windows looking out at the bustle of Main Street, there is a comfortable, vibrant environment for dine in or carry out experiences.
Kacha Thai Market is located at 205 South Main Street in Downtown Royal Oak.
