Explore: River Woods Park in Auburn Hills
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Sept. 26, 2025)
Auburn Hills, MI – River Woods Park in Auburn Hills has a little bit for everyone. I recently explored this beautiful space and enjoyed the balance of opportunities. The most noticeable thing from the parking lot are the beautiful children’s playscapes, made with bright fall colors that you don’t often see in playgrounds – yellow, orange, brown, and just a bit of green.
There are multiple slides and places for kids to play, with benches around the edge for waiting parents. The equipment was installed just last year, and it features opportunities for kids of all ages.
River Woods also has a basketball court, a little free library, and a pavilion with a grilling stove and year-round restrooms.
The best part for me, however, were the trails and the chance to step into a little bit of nature.
River Woods is located along the Clinton River and it includes a bridge so visitors can explore both sides. Towards the back of the park a pathway leads into a neighborhood, with a couple little side paths along the way. On the side with the parking lot there is a paved trail along the river that ends with an unpaved section in peaceful woods.
While the trails don’t provide great distances, they do give a bit of solitude and nature with beautiful views of the river.
The park is located close to Downtown Auburn Hills, within walking distance of Riverside Park and the Auburn Hills Skate Park. The address is 300 River Woods Drive,, basically on Squirrel Road north of Auburn Road.
