Oakland Thrive Restaurant Quest: The Smackin Soul in Lathrup Village

Latrhup Village, MI – Lathrup Village is home to a bright, bold soul food spot called The Smackin’ Soul.
I recently picked up a carryout order in my quest to try every restaurant in Oakland County. In the mood for something hearty, I ordered the roast dinner with chunks of potatoes and carrots in a thick, rich brown gravy. The tender meat pulled easily apart on this messy, but good, dish.
I got this with the mac and cheese, sauteed cabbage, and a sweet potato muffin.
The Smackin’ Soul has other southern-inspired dishes like turkey chops, fried chicken, fried catfish, smoked turkey wing, and oxtails.
Sides include dressing, yams, pasta salad, and black eyed peas. For dessert one might enjoy the peach cobbler, carrot cake, or strawberry banana pudding. And to drink there is a selection of Koolaid which includes red, grape, and mystery flavor.
