SEMCOG Online Survey Seeks Perceptions on SE Michigan’s Economy
SEMCOG, the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments, and its partner organization, the Metropolitan Affairs Coalition (MAC), is conducting an online survey to gather residents’ perceptions on Southeast Michigan’s economy. Responses will help guide planning efforts for Southeast Michigan’s next Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS), updated every five years.
“We have received hundreds of responses so far, but we are light in Monroe, Washtenaw, and St. Clair counties in particular,” said Dave Struck, Economic Development Coordinator, SEMCOG’s Economic and Community Vitality. “While we are still seeking responses region-wide, we are particularly interested in hearing more from those areas,” Struck said. |

With under 400 survey responses so far (compared to totals around 600 in previous years), more are needed across the region and especially from the following counties:
All interested community members are invited to share input regarding the regional economy and where it’s heading in the coming years. Responses are anonymous, and the survey should take only a few minutes to complete.
A CEDS is a strategic plan that helps guide regional economic development efforts and serves as a conduit for federal and State grants, as well as other resources. The plan centers on a collective vision built through a great deal of input from our member communities, regional partners, and, importantly, residents.
SEMCOG is the designated Economic Development District (EDD) by the U.S. Economic Development Administration, covering Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties.
How to ParticipateThe survey is available online until Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at midnight. Survey results will help shape Southeast Michigan’s next five-year economic development strategy. The draft CEDS document is expected to be shared for public review in January 2026, with final adoption expected in March 2026.
The economy affects everyone who lives and works in Southeast Michigan, so community input is vital to ensure the plan reflects the needs and values of the entire region.
