Deputies Investigating Fifth Pedestrian Fatality in Pontiac This Year
(OCSO, Aug. 27, 2025)
Pontiac, MI – Deputies from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Elm Street in Pontiac following a pedestrian versus motor vehicle crash that occurred shortly before 4:00pm yesterday.
The Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) was requested to assist deputies from the Pontiac Substation in investigating the incident.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 45-year-old Imlay City resident was operating a 2022 GMC Sierra with a trailer traveling northbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard when Jehad Alrayess, a 77-year-old West Bloomfield resident, entered the roadway. It is believed Alrayess, who appeared to be lost, was attempting to cross the street to ask for directions when he stepped into the path of the truck.
Mr. Alrayess was transported by STAR EMS to McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
At this time, alcohol, drugs, and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash, which remains under active investigation.
This tragedy constitutes the fifth fatal pedestrian incident within the City of Pontiac this year, alongside five other pedestrian-involved crashes causing significant injuries.
The Sheriff’s Office reminds both motorists and pedestrians to remain vigilant. Drivers are urged to stay alert, particularly in residential and high-traffic areas, and pedestrians are encouraged to use crosswalks whenever possible and exercise caution when crossing busy roadways.
