Pink Cosmo Blueberries – A Cute Culinary Find, Now in Michigan

Michigan – One of my favorite joys in life is stumbling upon a fruit or vegetable that I’ve not had before. And as growers continue to refine boutique varieties of fruits, this is a seemingly never-ending quest.
The most recent delight has been the Pink Cosmo blueberries that I found last week at Westborn Market in Berkley.
According to industry publication The Packer, Pink Cosmo blueberries were developed by horticulture professor Scott Nesmith of the University of Georgia and grown by G&M Farms in Fresno County, Calif.
They feature pink skin in a variety of hues, with white in the middle.
The ones I had were similar to the traditional blueberries sold in our area, but with more of a tartness to them. Other online reviews have compared them to nectarines or peaches, and the grower’s website says they have “a hint of fizziness.”
Pink Cosmo blueberries can be used in a variety of ways, like traditional blueberry varieties can. Enjoy them raw, mixed into yogurt or smoothies, in muffins, and in fruit salads. I used some of mine along with the blue version mixed into lemon Greek yogurt. Yum!
The season for Pink Cosmos is very short, and there’s no telling how long they’ll be in stock locally. So if your curiosity is piqued by the pink, get to Westborn (27659 Woodward Ave) before they’re gone. Also be sure to look around for other amazing fruits and veggies to try!
