Oakland County Parks Offers Summer Archery Programming

Clarkston, MI – Give archery a try at Independence Oaks County Park! Archery is a great way to build strength and improve concentration. It boosts hand-eye coordination, enhances upper body strength and increases confidence.

The archery range is open from 4-7 p.m. every Thursday, weather permitting. There is no charge to use the facility or equipment on site. For more information, call 248-858-0916.

Archery programs are designed to introduce newcomers to the basics while providing those more familiar with the sport an opportunity to improve their technique. Registration is open now for these fun opportunities:

Archery 101

Archery 101 is scheduled from 10 a.m.-noon July 12 or Sept. 13. Archery facilitators will be on site to provide basic archery instruction and practice time. This program is recommended for ages 8 and older. Cost is $15/person, equipment included. Each session is limited to 16 participants. For more information, view the Archery 101 flyer.

Adults Only Archery

Adult participants can learn archery basics with qualified instructors from 1-3 p.m. July 12 and Sept. 13. All equipment is provided. This program is open to ages 18 and older. Cost is $15/person. For more information, view the Adults Only Archery Flyer.

Archery Adventure Camp

Camp participants ages 8-15 will receive a week-long archery experience where they learn archery fundamentals and safety tips as well as enjoy non-archery activities. All equipment is provided, but participants must bring their own snacks and lunches.

Each Archery Adventure Camp session is limited to 16 participants and will be held weather permitting. Cost is $175/person/session. Sessions will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. July 14-18 and Aug. 4-8 at Independence Oaks County Park.

Archery Classes

This class series is a great introduction to archery as a sport. For an hour every week, archers will spend time on the range learning about fundamentals, safety and competition. Equipment is provided at the range; personal equipment can be brought. Archers must wear closed-toed shoes. This program is recommended for ages 8 and older.

Two upcoming sessions include:

4-5 p.m. Aug. 12, 19 & 26 and Sept. 2, 9 & 16
5:30-6:30 p.m. Aug. 12, 19 & 26 and Sept. 2, 9 & 16

Each session is limited to 16 participants. Cost is $75/person/session.

Monster Mayhem

Have fun shooting at 3D monster targets during Monster Mayhem from 1-3 p.m. Sept. 20. General archery instruction and all equipment will be provided. This program is open to participants ages 8 and older. Parent/caregiver participants are encouraged. This event is limited to 16 participants. Cost is $10/person.
