Deputies Seek Driver Who Fatally Struck Bicyclist in Pontiac and Fled the Scene
(OCSO, July 4, 2025)
Pontiac, MI – Oakland County Sheriff’s Office deputies are asking for the public’s help identifying the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a bicyclist late Thursday night and then fled the scene.
The crash happened about 11:07 p.m. on Baldwin Avenue at Rundell Avenue in Pontiac.
An unidentified man was riding his bicycle north on Baldwin Avenue when he was struck by a black Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The driver drove away from the scene without stopping to render aid.
“We are seeking the public’s help to locate and identify the individual involved in this hit-and-run fatal crash,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. “Obviously, basic humanity was not exhibited by leaving an individual to die in the street. We are seeking anyone with information that could help bring this individual to justice.”
A witness followed the Grand Cherokee onto a side street where the driver and a passenger got out of the damaged vehicle and fled in a different vehicle, a silver Chevrolet Malibu.
The bicyclist, a 31-year-old Pontiac resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Grand Cherokee was impounded. Speed appears to be a factor in the crash. The incident is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit.
Anyone with information about the driver or the passenger is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1- 800-SPEAK-UP. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case. Tipsters remain anonymous.
